In 1990, Steve assumed the position of Director of Senate Media Services,
a nonpartisan office of the Senate, charged with producing television
programs, photographic services and multi-media products to raise public
awareness of the Senate and legislative activities. Under
Steve’s direction, Senate Media Services programming distribution
expanded to over 1 million homes in the metro area through broadcasts
on TPT 17 and about 200,000 cable subscribers in Greater Minnesota. In
addition, the programming diversified to include committee and floor
session coverage, news conference coverage, short documentaries and
informational segments and a weekly PBS-distributed public affairs
program called Capitol Report. Senate Media Services programming
has been recognized nationally by the National Association of Government
Communicators and by the Legislative Information and Communications
Staff Section of NCSL. All Senate Media Services programming
is webcast as well and can be viewed at www.senate.mn/media.
