Biography:

A native of Australia, I graduated from Lewis Clark State College, Lewiston, ID with a Bachelor’s in Physical Education, Eastern Washington University, Cheney, WA with a Master’s degree in Physical Education, and completed my Ph. D in Educational Studies from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Currently, I’m an Assistant Professor of Sport Management in the School of Kinesiology at the University of Minnesota.

My work focuses on sport management ethics and policy. Within the sport context, our research team has been studying how citizen participation can impact/control administrative decision making; and examining the development of the Canadian Sport Policy (2002) within the framework of deliberative democracy. With my co-authors we are currently finishing a manuscript that explores how different forms of communicative power is being utilized to hold Sport Canada administrators accountable for their decision making in relation to the principle of athlete-centred. I am also proud to serve on the Executive Board of the Sports Alliance of Minnesota (SAM), a grassroots coalition of sports organizations whose mission is to provide tools for creating, developing and maintaining a positive youth sports environment.

What's a recent movie you've seen and enjoyed and why?

I saw Million Dollar Baby this past spring which is a story about a female boxer. One of the main themes that the movie addressed was the issue of assisted suicide. Very thought provoking
